Yawning, Sirius sighed dramatically, removing one hand from around Sev and rooting around in his pocket. "Damn, I'm lying on it." He lifted his hips, finally recovering the tiny trunk and showing it to Sev. "Didn't have any other way to carry it, on my broom."

Another dramatic sigh. "I have to pee, but then I'll resize it." He was extremely reluctant to let go... but then he realized that he could probably wrangle sleeping like that for the remainder of their holiday break. And that put him in a much better mood. Suddenly quite pleased, he clambered over Sev and out of the bed, heading for the bathroom.

He returned two minutes later, having remembered to wash his hands, and picked up the tiny trunk and his wand, returning it to its normal size and weight. And then he rooted around inside until he came up with a large, oddly-shaped package, handing it to Sev. "Happy Christmas," he announced with a grin. "And it's not even anything explosive."

Inside were a set of shiny new copper cauldrons, five different sizes, all stored inside of each other, because he's noticed Sev's were a bit dinged up, and figured that he would appreciate a practical gift that he could make use of more than something pointless. And inside the smallest cauldron was a little soapstone fox figurine. And then he recalled that there was a second part to the gift, and he rooted around in his trunk again until he found the small blank notebook bound in green leather, also wrapped, for Sev's notes, so he could have something to scribble in constantly once he filled up next year's textbook.

“Well, that would match the bathtub in the kitchen,” Severus remarked after a moment’s thought, considering pine needles all over the parlor. Honestly, though, despite his remarks, that made sense and was exactly why he didn’t bother. That, and there was no reason to. He would only spend Christmas alone.

Or… he’d thought he would. Apparently not, now. Although Sirius might want to go somewhere else. Didn’t he usually run off to Potter’s? Then again, of course his family would look for him there. Still, Severus didn’t want to assume Sirius would stay. Or… get his hopes up. Not that he had hopes to be getting up.

He’s distracted, though, from thoughts of that by Sirius’ mention of his trunk. Which… he definitely had not seen the night before. “Your trunk?” he repeated, a bit confused. After all, he’d seen no sign of it.

Not surprised in the slightest by the lack of festive decorations and such, Sirius just smiled, shrugging. "What would you do with it after you had to go back? It'd turn all brown and get needles all over your parlor."

He sighs. "I'd get your present, but I'd have to get up." His bladder informed him that he'd be getting up soon anyway unless he wanted to relieve himself all over Sev.

"It's in my trunk." Which is still shrunken and in his pocket. He should maybe remove the charms from that.

Currently pressed up against Sirius, his arms around him, Severus could feel when Sirius tensed, as well as when he relaxed again. This didn’t particularly surprise him, all things considered. Especially when Sirius mumbled ‘Happy Christmas.’

Was it really? Severus wasn’t sure about that. After all… Sirius had just run away from home in order to keep from being murdered. That didn’t sound particularly happy to Severus, who though clearly no expert on happiness could probably tell it when he saw it.

At least Sirius was safe for now, he concluded. That was good, if not exactly “happy.” No one would find him here. How could they?

Presents, then, are mentioned, and Severus pauses for a minute, not sure what to say. He’d spent a good month and a half trying to determine if he should or should not get Sirius anything. The only reason it had even occurred to him was because he had to get Lily something (as she always got him something); she was the only one he ever did get anything for, mainly because if he didn’t and she did he would feel like a jerk and worse, actually care that he felt like a jerk.

So that had brought him along to wondering about Sirius, another person he suddenly cared about enough to not want to feel like a jerk. And then, once he’d determined that well, he could always get him something and then not give it to him if he changed his mind, the question of what became a serious* issue. After all, Sirius was not only filthy rich, he was Sirius. What he hell do you get him? Aside from perhaps something with buttons to press, that would keep him occupied. Buttons that did nothing would baffle him for hours. Actually, now that he thought of that, that would be hilarious…

“Happy Christmas,” he responded after a minute, wondering how in the world Sirius had thought to bring his present with him when he’d suddenly found himself on the run but eventually deciding it didn’t really matter. “I’ve yours as well,” he added a moment later. Which was less surprising, since he lived there. “I haven’t a tree or anything.” The very idea seemed downright ridiculous to him. Why cut down a tree just to stuff it in your living room for a couple of weeks and then to throw it away? Seemed a waste of a tree. And a lot of work for no good reason. Strangely, though, no one ever seemed to agree with him on this matter.

Sirius smiled a bit against the back of Sev’s neck, but he loosened his arms a little more, too. “Sorry,” he mumbled, not really sorry at all. He was warm and comfortable, and if he got up to use the loo they wouldn’t get back into bed like this.

He realized what day it was about the same time Sev did, but he was a bit more pleased about it. He was… not at home for Christmas morning. There would be no fighting, no screaming. No cursing. Even Reggie would probably have a quiet Christmas morning, he realized, his chest clenching a bit. No Sirius to disrupt things. He would need to write his little brother later, although he was sure Reggie would know he was alive by now; Bella and their father would undoubtedly be furious.

He hoped Reg was safe…

Swallowing, he forced his newly-tense muscles to relax again. “Happy Christmas,” he mumbled. “Have your present. Was gonna wait til after break, but… get to see you after all.”

Glad that he can at least breathe again, since soon he was going to either pass out or start kicking at Sirius, neither of which would go well, Severus found himself equally (and strangely) glad that Sirius hadn’t let go just yet. Sort of, a little. It was rather cold, after all. It being December and all.

And in fact… Christmas, wasn’t it? Severus had lost track of time a bit, having seen no particular reason to celebrate Christmas alone; it had never been much more than an excuse for his parents to have a day off from work, before, so naturally Tobias would spend the day drunk and more useless than usual. No one had much bothered with celebrating or presents of any sort, and Severus had made it a habit to make himself scarce over holidays.

And now alone… he hadn’t seen any more reason to bother with it. He wasn’t religious, and he was not given to celebrations when he was with other people, let alone by himself.

Even so… the fact that it was Christmas hit him suddenly. No… not that fact that it was Christmas. The fact that it was Christmas, and Sirius was here. But he didn’t know what that meant, really, any more than he knew why he didn’t mind waking up to being partially crushed by Sirius, so he didn’t mention it.

“I wouldn’t know,” Severus said, voice dry but quite truthful; as he couldn’t move, he had no idea if Sirius was squished. But he did notice, suddenly, that Sirius had stopped shaking, as he’d said he would, and found himself immensely relieved.

Sirius felt Sev starting to move around (struggling) and he knew he'd have to loosen his grip a bit. Sighing against the back of his neck, he loosened his arms a little, not removing them. "Morning," he mumbled, more or less awake. He'd been much happier to doze once he'd realized he wasn't dead or about to be murdered.

But he can loosen his grip a little, so Sev can breathe. But only for that. He's not letting him go just yet, despite the overwhelming urge to go pee. "Wasn't squished after all," he observed, the humor audible in his voice. "Th's worked out well."

Severus woke a few minutes later to find himself thoroughly surrounded by… Sirius? Clearly, he wasn’t quite awake yet, because even though his half-asleep brain had finally begun to allow that smelling like Sirius Black wasn’t abnormal, waking up in his bedroom with Sirius was not at all normal. Waking up in his bed with Sirius, both of Sirius’ arms around him, and his breathing on the back of his neck, no less.

A moment or two of utter confusion ensued, during which he found himself completely unable to move. Together, they barely fit on the bed, but Sirius had both of his arms completely around Severus, and Severus was pressed back against him enough that they fit almost perfectly on the bed. This position, of course, would never have occurred to either of them while they were awake.

Which they had been. Last night. Because Sirius had shown up… the explosion… Sirius’ family. Suddenly recalling the events of last night, Severus again attempted to move, but this time he turned around, trying to face Sirius. He couldn’t; he could barely breathe, actually, which was probably why he woke up. But he could see that Sirius’ side was moving in time with his breathing, which meant that he hadn’t been somehow killed in the middle of the night while Severus slept completely through it… right next to him… all right, yes, it was unlikely. But possible.

Now if only he could move enough to see if Sirius was awake. Because if he wasn’t, Severus would clearly not be moving until he was.

Sirius woke the next day at close to noon, yawning. He tried to stretch, but found that he was having some difficulties, and he cracked an eye open... only to see the back of Sev's head just in front of his on the pillow.

Startled, he took stock, realizing that he had both arms wrapped around Sev's torso and one leg tucked between the other boy's. It was startlingly intimate, possibly moreso than they'd been up until this point, despite the fact that they'd been shagging for several months.

And then the memories of the night before hit him. Specifically, the memories of what Reggie had told him, of leaving Reggie, of his father and Bella plotting to murder him... Swallowing hard, he tightened his arms gently around Sev, burying his face in the back of his neck.

Since he didn't particularly want to sleep on the couch, Severus didn't bother arguing with that. Well, that, and Sirius was out cold within moments of speaking. Arguing right now would go unnoticed. If he really wanted to sleep somewhere else, he could go somewhere else and Sirius would never have noticed. So no arguments. That, and Severus himself was tired enough that now that he was lying down, getting back up seemed almost ludicrous.

Plus... if he left Sirius, he thought vaguely as his eyes closed, then Sirius would be alone up here and out cold with no one to protect him if something happened. He'd never wake up in time if someone burst in through the window or something. Unlikely, Severus would admit, but possible. So he couldn't leave. Even if they were squished due to Sirius' overly large shoulders.

Being squished wasn't so bad, he admitted to himself only, half-asleep suddenly. Actually, it seemed to be working out much better than trying to sleep normally in his bed...
